Special project of the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025, curated by Carlo Ratti, Archive and the City is an exhibition that explores the unexpected parallels between archives and cities—two seemingly distant systems that share surprising structural and conceptual affinities. Through networks, connections, and shared frameworks, the exhibition invites visitors to discover how the organization of ideas and documents can mirror the anatomy of a metropolis.
The exhibition is articulated in three sections:
-
Archive and City – a philosophical dialogue on structure, complexity, and meaning
-
The Small World Phenomenon – a look at network theory and its implications for access and data organization
-
The Biennale Archive – a behind-the-scenes view of the archival process, revealing materials and methods rarely seen by the public
